Unnecessary Item

Last night I went on a mission to Tarimyah. 702nd does boring missions, nothing like the dismounted missions that I used to do when I worked with the MPs at brigade. I'm pulling medical coverage on logistics missions now: resupply. Last night was my first trip, and it was honestly pretty gay. The only saving grace of the mission was that the medics have their own vehicle so we can dick around the whole time with minimal supervision.

Tarimyah is a tiny little camp north east of Taji. It should have taken us 40 minutes to get there but in reality it was an hour and 20 minutes of painfully slow driving. We had some very heavy vehicles with fuel drums and generators that just couldn't hack anything over 25MPH in the convoy. It was the kind of slow driving that makes you want to peel off your eyelids.

Once we (finally) got to Tarimyah and we got out of the vehicle to stretch our legs, the driver of my vehicle came over to me and said the most ridiculous thing. He said, "So, uh, I left my weapon in the weapon's rack." Let me tell you what that meant. It meant his weapon was roughly 30 miles away sitting in the EVAC shack unattended. He left the wire and entered a war zone without any means of defending himself.

And you know the worst part? My reaction was, oh well. It didn't bother me at all. Hell, I had my weapon with me, but I never loaded it! So I wasn't much better off than he was.

This war is so over. Nothing has happened in so long that we could leave the wire in PJs and we'd be just as safe as we are in our body armor; and we'd be a hell of a lot more comfortable! Complacency is dangerous, but shit, being on edge still at this point would be an unnecassary stressor.

  1. That is hilarious! But with it being so dull I guess it is almost to be expected.

Oh and I'm contemplating getting some sleeve work on my left arm. My mind is leaning towards that direction but it is not made up yet.
