Zeus

Charlie Med has a mascot. Yes, it's true that it is a violation of the laws of the land to have a mascot. The Army doesn't want us playing with wild animals from a third world country. I totally understand what they're getting at. But whoever made up that rule just hadn't met Zeus.

He's the coolest dog. I'm not a huge dog lover but even I want to pet him and love him and take him home. He's been hanging around the clinic for about a month now, but since I was on leave I just recent met him. I was sitting outside on the front deck of the EVAC shack reading my Kindle (shout out to the Kindle-- woot!) when I heard a very high pitched squeek. I thought it was the door swaying on ungreased hinges. It was super annoying. But when I glared over in utter annoyance, I saw a cute little white face peering back at me from the side of the building. It was Zeus! He was whining at me to get my attention. He had his ears laid back, and he just looked so pitiful. I encouraged him to come to me, and he padded right over like he'd known me decades. We've been pretty tight since then.

Zeus likes to eat basically anything that we get from the dining facility. He especially likes egg yolks. He has a shoe that he leaves at the clinic so he has something to play with during the day. He's really clean and soft for being a stray dog. He sucks at playing fetch. But he's lovely anyhow.

If Charlie Med is going to break the rules, I think Zeus is the perfect way to do it.
